About us

Ontario regulated and funded midwifery in 1994, becoming the first Canadian province to do so. Midwifery services are fully funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. This means that clients are assured of a midwife’s training and competency, and that they can access a midwife at no cost to themselves.

Quality Care

Established in 2003, The Midwives of York Region have been providing care for our clients and their families during pregnancy, labour, birth and the first 6 weeks of post-partum care. We have nine Registered Midwives that work in teams in order to provide 24-hour on-call availability.

Application Process

As you may know, midwifery care is in high demand, and spots are limited, therefore we offer a waiting list for those who are not immediately accepted into care.  We will reach out to you before placing you on our wait list and contact you if a spot becomes available. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible for a better chance of being accepted into midwifery care. In the meantime, we encourage you to continue seeing your family doctor for prenatal care

Our catchment area is Central to Northern York Region.  If you find yourself outside of this area, we can still accept your application, however, be advised that Home Visits are not guaranteed.  Please use the search function to see if you are within our Catchment.  Details regarding this would be discussed with your midwife at your First Visit.

Opening hours

We work in teams to offer 24-hour on call availability. Our office is located in Aurora. Our regular office hours

  • 8:30am – 4:30pm
  • Saturday & Sunday and Statutory holidays
