My husband and I knew for our second child we would want to be under the care of midwives again. Having had a great experience with another group in a different city, my husband and I couldn't wait to go through it all again. At each appointment, all of my questions were answered and I always left feeling great.
It was important to me to labour and deliver drug free as I had great success with my first pregnancy. Each midwife on my team also understood how anxious I was feeling about having enough time to arrange care for our toddler when I did go into labour. Once I hit 39 weeks I felt ready to have my son but knew we couldn't control very much! Victoria took the time to explain all my options and I opted to try a sweep (even though I never did in my first pregnancy).
The day before my due date I met with Victoria at 11am for a second sweep. I knew there was no guarantee it would induce labour but again, I was so worried about what to do with our toddler I was willing to try! Thankfully I was already 4-5cm but no contractions and baby's head was still floating high. Just like with my first, my husband and I knew we had to head to the mall and walk as much as I could handle. Surprisingly by 1:15 pm we were home from the mall and I was letting Jacqueline on call know my contractions had finally started. We got admitted to the hospital at 2 pm and things progressed fairly quickly.
Thanks to Jacqueline I was able to stick to the plan and was able to labour and deliver naturally without any drugs. I also got to deliver in a squat type position leaning over the head of the hospital bed which was something I didn't get to experience with my first. At 4:52 pm we welcomed our son Logan Richard into the world. My husband and I are eternally grateful for the superior care we received from the York Midwives and encourage anyone considering a midwife to connect with them right away.
